These days, more and more Shopify merchants are moving from email to SMS marketing to take advantage of the more personal line of communication and generally higher conversion rate. One SMS marketing solution Shopify store owners have been turning to is Postscript, a powerful software that enables merchants to run text campaigns based on keywords.
However, collecting phone numbers from prospective customers isn’t easy. This is where Alia comes in. Like a typical popup Shopify app, Alia gives discounts to users when they share their contact info. But unlike other popups, which can be irritating to users and provide little value beyond simple email collection, Alia educates users about your business, drives real engagement with your brand, and leaves users excited to join your mailing list. In fact, nearly 40% of customers that click on Alia end up signing up.
Capitalizing on both of these tools can take your company’s growth to the next level. That’s why we built the Alia + Postscript integration, which automatically sends any phone numbers collected by Alia to Postscript. In this article, we’ll show you how to set up the integration so you can start growing your SMS list today.
If you don’t already have Postscript, head over to https://postscript.io to sign up and begin your SMS marketing journey.
Once you sign up, or if you already have a Postscript account, open your dashboard and navigate to settings by clicking the bottom tab in the left menu with your store’s name on it. Then click “API” in the menu that opens up. You can also click here to open this page.
You should see a page with the header “API Keys”. Click Create Security Key Pair in the top right, and click “Yes” to confirm. You should see the new API key added to the table below.
In order to integrate Postscript with Alia, you’ll need the private API key, not the public one. To reveal it, click Show under the “Private Key” column:
Copy the private key that appears. We’ll need it for the next step.
If you don’t have Alia yet, your store is missing out on increased brand engagement, more comprehensive insights into your customers, and a higher conversion rate. Try free now on the Shopify app store.
If you already have Alia, it’ll only take a few seconds to integrate with Postscript. Before you do so, make sure that Alia is configured to collect users’ phone numbers (by default, Alia only collects emails). To do this, go to the Settings tab and scroll to the “User Profiles” section, near the bottom of the page. Make sure “Phone” is set to Required, as shown in the screenshot below. You can still collect emails if you’d like, but this may increase sign-up friction for users.
Now that we’re collecting phone numbers from users, we’re ready to integrate Postscript.
Open Alia in the Shopify admin and navigate to the Integrations tab on the left. Click Connect under “Postscript”.
Here, you’ll input the Postscript private API key that we copied in the previous step. Alia will test the key to make sure that it works correctly. If you get an error, make sure that you copied the full API key correctly.
Next, you’ll be asked to select a keyword, which is the campaign that you want Alia users to be referred to. Postscript requires that all profiles are subscribed to a keyword, so you’ll have to pick one to complete the setup. Depending on how you want to target prospective customers referred through Alia, you could select an existing keyword or create one specifically for Alia users.
Once you’ve picked a keyword, click Create.
That’s it! Postscript is now integrated with Alia, and any user that signs up on Alia will automatically be subscribed to the Postscript campaign you selected.
SMS marketing has proven to be an invaluable tool in the e-commerce space, but it’s not very useful if users don’t submit their phone numbers. Instead of adding another invasive popup that users immediately close, try out Alia, a different kind of popup that actually gets users excited about your company. Click here to try Alia free for 14 days.
